Android: как программно установить размер макета

В рамках приложения для Android я создаю набор кнопок. Кнопки являются частью вложенного набора LinearLayouts. Используя вес, я автоматически изменяю размер набора в зависимости от размера родительского элемента LinearLayout. Идея состоит в том, чтобы на основе количества пикселей и плотности экрана установить размер содержащего макета в число пикселей; и сделать так, чтобы кнопка изменяла свой размер на основании этого изменения.

Тогда возникает вопрос: как изменить размер макета.

Я испробовал несколько предложенных методов, и ни один из них не приблизился к работе. Вот подмножество XML, который создает набор кнопок:

Два вопроса: 1) как мне получить доступ к numberPadLayout из Java. И как только у меня будет доступ к представлению, 2) как изменить высоту и ширину макета.
