Почему этот код не закрывает соединения JDBC? (Непредвиденное поведение Java 7 Autocloseable)

При использовании Java 7u5 с конструкцией ресурсов try -with -следующий код приводит к утечке соединений jdbc:

try (Connection connection =..; PreparedStatement stmt =..) {
    stmt.setString(..);
    return stmt.executeUpdate() > 0;
}

Следующий фрагмент кода работает, как и ожидалось:

int ret = 0;

try (Connection connection =..; PreparedStatement stmt =..) {
    stmt.setString(..);
    ret = stmt.executeUpdate();
}

return ret > 0;

Похоже, что в первом случае метод Connection.close()не вызывается.

Я использую последний коннектор mysql. Это неожиданное поведение, верно?

Тест

Следующий тест НЕ будет печататьCLOSED:

Как ни странно, если execute()изменить на return 0;, тоCLOSEDБУДЕТ напечатан.
